As we approach the end of 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on the year and express our heartfelt thanks to you, our Runbox community. We’re a small, independent company, and while we always strive for excellence we know there’s room to grow. This year has been a journey filled with both achievements and challenges, and we are grateful for your support.

Challenges and Improvements
2025 brought its share of frustrations, and some of you have experienced delays when accessing our services or receiving incoming email. These delays are related to a complex web of interconnected systems that are being actively upgraded and tuned while our customer base and traffic continues to grow. We understand how important reliable email access is to you and acknowledge that although great strides have been made, more work needs to be done going forward and we pledge to improve our services further in 2026.
Running an email service like Runbox involves multiple layers of infrastructure, a large and steadily growing number of servers, software packages and programs that comprise a complicated orchestra of technology that under normal circumstances plays like a beautiful harmony.
However, when there’s an issue with one component it can cascade to other parts of the system, and that’s why your feedback is so invaluable — it helps us pinpoint where things might have gone awry in this intricate ecosystem. One example of this complexity is our spam filtering system. It consists of multiple layers of protection – firewalls, IP-based blocklists, rule-based tests, and, most recently, an upgraded trainable spam filter which is now available in a closed beta test upon request.
2025 also saw some new features being released. among which is the new Allow and Block functionality in Runbox 7. This helps combat spam by letting you block unwanted senders and domains, while ensuring legitimate emails from trusted sources arrive without delay. Other updates this year include drag and drop functionality for files and images when composing messages, saving drafts as a template, and a new Runbox 7 Alias page for improved management.
Moving forward
We remain committed to enhancing your experience by continuing to upgrade our server infrastructure, optimizing resource distribution, and investing in new hardware. These improvements will further boost email processing speed and minimize delays. At the same time, we’re refining our spam filtering algorithms to ensure they remain both effective and precise.
Our team is hard at work on substantial upgrades to Runbox 7, focusing on increasing its robustness and responsiveness. This includes faster handling of bulk actions, displaying messages immediately, and other improvements to the overall user experience while leveraging Runbox 7’s innovative utilization of modern browser technology.
Behind the scenes we’re also laying the groundwork for even bigger advancements, which we’re excited to share more about in the coming year.

Environmental Responsibility
As a company and as individuals we recognize the gravity of the global climate crisis and the critical role sustainability plays in shaping our future. All our actions — directly or indirectly — impact our environment, and our collective actions determine the future of the Earth’s biosphere. The urgency of the environmental crises is growing, with daily reports on the impact on extreme weather resulting from our actions.
We have expanded our support for environmental initiatives, including a partnership with Oslofjordens Friluftsråd (Oslo Fjord Outdoor Recreation Council). This organization is dedicated to preserving a healthy and living Oslo Fjord and ensuring access to the fjord for everyone. We also continue to support other environmental causes as detailed on our Sustainable Services page.
For us, sustainability is a core part of how we operate and how we see our role in the world, and we encourage other companies to support the environment in their own unique way.
